Fish farm AS Nagli was founded in 1968 for marketable carp breeding. In 1991 the fish farm was reorganized into joint stock company. During the last years along with carp breeding, technology of pike and tench breeding had been mastered. This allowed AS Nagli to broaden assortment of marketable output and to participate in the national fish resources restocking program.
Today Fish-breeding farm Nagli JSC realizes permanent deliveries of pollution-free and ecologically clean products – live fish – to shops in Latvia, and supplies other fish farms with a planting stock with own specialized transport. AS Nagli is a leader among marketable carp breeding fish farms in Latvia.
Breeding process
In the AS Nagli hatchery larva of carp and pike is incubated in an artificial way, where they are bred till the stage of fry. Then the fry is released into the nursery ponds. In the grow out ponds one year old, two year old and thee year old (marketable) carp are bred together with pike and tench. Production cycle of carp lasts for three years. Fish are fed with zooplankton and phytoplankton and ecologically clean feed. In the Nagli fish farm only planting material of own production is used.
Constant day-to-day control and monitoring, executed by high profile ichthyologists and pisciculturists, of breeding conditions of live fish, inhabiting AS Nagli water expanses of 1200 ha, in order to increase cost-effectiveness and to avoid diseases. That is why the products of AS Nagli is marked by the clients as of a high quality.
Quality
Nagli fish farm is producing natural ecologically clean healthy food – fish.
At Nagli fish farm fish are kept in pure water. The fish farm was built on the peatbog, and the upper part of bottom of the ponds consists of peat. Peat contains many helpful microelements and creates antibacterial environment. Water in AS Nagli ponds is cleaner than in many natural water reservoirs and doesn’t contain harmful for human health microelements. Water quality monitoring is done on an everyday basis.
Fish are fed with zooplankton and phytoplankton and ecologically clean feed. Experienced ichthyologists and pisciculturists are taking part in elaboration of feed optimal recipes that fish are fed with. Team of AS Nagli is also ensures effective breeding of natural feed reserves in the ponds. Resting and treatment of the ponds are introduced into the operational system of Nagli fish farm. Supplementary and mixed fish stocking methods of fish of the same species, but of different age, and of different fish species are used in the ponds. These fish stocking methods allow to exploit natural feed reserve of the ponds in a more effective manner. By these means life of the fish in Nagli ponds does not differ from life of fish in natural waters, excluding the fact that fish breeding process at Nagli fish farm is entirely under control and monitoring by competent team of professionals.

Location and ecology
AS Nagli fish farm is situated in the unique wetland Lubana (Eastern part of Latvia, 48 000 ha), which is an uninterrupted line of bogs, forests and meadows. The biggest lake in Latvia, Lubanas lake (8000 ha), the biggest fish ponds in Latvia (2700 ha), the biggest marches and meadows in Latvia are situated in the wetland Lubana. 186 known birds species, from which 43 are protected by EU legislation, and 23 animal species, including the main Latvian population of wolves, are inhabiting the wetland. In fact, the widest range of flora and fauna, beautiful landscapes of the region are situated in the wetland Lubana. Fish farming in ponds of AS Nagli enhance the biodiversity of the region because farmed fish is the main feeding source for rare birds and animals.
